Report on "SID Display Week 2025," an international exhibition on display technology

SID Display Week 2025 was held in San Jose, California, USA from May 11th to 16th, 2025. Organized by the Society for Information Display (SID), an international academic society in the field of information displays, this exhibition is an international event where researchers, engineers, and companies from all over the world gather to present the latest technologies and products.

Companies and researchers at the forefront of display technology from all over the world gathered at the event. In addition to introducing cutting-edge technologies at the exhibition hall, symposiums and technical seminars were also actively held, making it an important opportunity to demonstrate the fusion of research and industry and the direction of next-generation displays.

We at Dexerials also exhibited at the event under the theme of "Proposing solutions targeting next-generation displays and contributing to problem-solving." We presented cutting-edge display-related materials and technologies. In this report, we will introduce the notable industry trends that emerged from the event and the exhibits at our booth.

Industry trends revealed at SID Display Week 2025

SID Display Week is not just a technology exhibition, but a valuable opportunity to get a feel for the direction of the industry. Through dialogue with visitors and other exhibitors, we were able to get a sense of the direction of technology that will be required in the future.

The following three themes attracted particular attention. Many of the booths and sessions from other companies were related to these themes, indicating the high level of interest.

Accelerating the commercialization of MicroLED displays

Each company was promoting their MicroLED display technology as a next-generation display technology that achieves ultra-high definition, high brightness, and low power consumption. In addition, at the SID business conference, the latest trends toward commercialization were discussed, drawing particular attention.

Possibilities and future prospects for flexible displays

At SID Display Week 2025, there were also presentations on research related to flexible displays. In particular, Samsung Display's new concept OLED devices such as the "Polygon Foldable" and "Flexible Briefcase" attracted attention as they demonstrated the evolution of folding technology and offered new user experiences. In addition, LG Display exhibited a "Slidable OLED" and a "Stretchable Display" for automotive use, highlighting the broadening range of applications (Source 1, Source 2).

The rise of sustainability technologies

"Sustainable Displays and Green Technologies" was one of the main themes for 2025. There were a series of presentations on related topics such as energy-saving designs, recycling technologies, and the use of eco-friendly materials, making it clear that efforts to reduce the environmental impact of products throughout their entire lifecycle, from manufacturing to disposal, will be an essential perspective for future display development.

These trends show that the display market is evolving from a purely high-performance competition to a phase that emphasizes practicality and sustainability. With these trends in mind, we would like to continue developing technologies that can meet future needs.

Next-generation display solutions proposed by Dexerials

At Dexerials, we are developing solutions from both the material and process technology perspectives to support the evolution of displays for the next generation. At this year's SID Display Week 2025, we exhibited mainly anisotropic conductive film (ACF) specialized for mounting MicroLED chips, and introduced technologies that meet cutting-edge needs such as fine mounting and transparent display compatibility.

The pre-cut particle-aligned ACF (ArrayFIX) attracted particular interest. In addition to explaining the product structure, the booth also provided demonstrations and presentations to show how it could be mounted.

What is Particle-Arrayed ACF (ArrayFIX) for MicroLED Displays?

Particle-arranged ACF for MicroLED displays is an anisotropic conductive film with a structure in which conductive particles are regularly arranged, and is compatible with fine pitch mounting. Micro conductive particles with a diameter of 2.2 μm are arranged at intervals of approximately 4.4 μm (particle density 58,000 pieces/mm²), enabling reliable particle capture even on the small pads of MicroLED chips, achieving stable connections.

This ACF comes in two types: sheet type and pre-cut type. The pre-cut type is particularly useful for repairing MicroLED chips and for increasing the transparency of the entire display, such as transparent displays.

The exhibit introduced the mounting process of MicroLED chips with illustrations. Furthermore, to intuitively convey the features of pre-cut ACF, a sample was exhibited in which particle-aligned ACF cut to a Φ80μm size with a particle diameter of 2.2μm and a density of 58,000 particles/mm² was attached (at intervals of 500μm) to a glass substrate. This application example for a transparent display attracted the attention of visitors.

At the symposium, we presented the development results of our particle-arrayed ACF "ArrayFIX," which is compatible with the fine pads of MicroLED, as well as our pre-cut ACF technology with a view to transparent and stretchable displays.

The future seen through SID Display Week

Through this exhibition, we realized that the display industry is at a major turning point. At the venue, in addition to high resolution and functionality, there were many proposals that were environmentally conscious, suggesting that future technology evaluations will become more diverse. Also, while there were exhibitors who seemed to be exploring new directions, many companies were focusing on MicroLED in particular, and exhibits that envisioned advanced uses such as transparent displays, high-brightness HUDs, and 3D displays attracted attention.

In particular, the particle-arranged ACF that we introduced attracted interest as it related to specific issues in the high-precision mounting of MicroLED chips. Through dialogue with visitors, we were able to get many suggestions regarding possible applications such as process shortening and development into transparent displays.

SID Display Week is a forum where researchers, engineers, and product planners from around the world gather together to exchange opinions on market needs and future user experiences centered around technology. Leveraging the practical feedback gained from this exhibition, Dexerials will continue to work on developing materials and process technologies that support the evolution and practical application of display technology.
